A way of life…

I’ve always been a very visually orientated person and the Lighting Design  course has really helped me to develop my creativity and enabled me to produce imaginative work that I would have never thought of doing. We often have guest tutors visiting the College to teach specialist subjects, such as lighting for rock, opera, architecture, TV lighting and corporate events. All of this is alongside the vast knowledge our tutors already have, which makes for an excellent learning atmosphere.

At College we have a busy timetable of course work and there is always something exciting happening on the campus. There are often events that involve the whole College. One such event is the annual Symposium. The week is full of new and exciting activities that the students do not usually get to experience during the day to day work of their courses.

During Symposium, theatrical, technical and art-based companies are invited to run workshops for students, giving ample opportunities throughout the week to share creations with the rest of the College. The workshops can range from something as simple as a flag workshop or as complex as making mechanical machines. Symposium is also a fantastic opportunity to chill out with your friends, eat, drink and relax and watch some of the exciting things happening around you.

If you still have energy left after all of these events then you can spend your weekends in London, seeing theatre, shopping, visiting attractions or just chilling out in a coffee shop. London is really close, and the trains and buses run late into the night so you can stay out and come home early…. in the morning!

If you don’t fancy the hustle and bustle of London then there are loads of great local pubs and attractions nearby.

The College Students’ Union is run by a group of elected students who work as the voice for the student body, helping both the students and the College make constant improvements. The SU organise plenty of events throughout the year, although my favourite is the RBC Summer Ball, a great opportunity to get your glad rags on and socialise with friends.

The College has been my home from home for the last three years and I am sad to be graduating. It has given me a perfect environment to develop my skills, become more personally confident and outgoing, as well as giving me the opportunity to meet some wonderful people and make lifelong friends.”

Jay Martin, Lighting Design (recent graduate)

“From 8am – when actors are bounding to their rehearsals, to 10pm – when warm theatre lights are still glowing off the technical theatre students’ eager faces – Rose Bruford is a fantastic life experience! There is a large community feel, where everyone knows everyone, and there is always an exciting buzz that flows throughout the grounds.”
