Biennial Festival of New Plays
Chattanooga Theatre Centre, 400 River Street
Every other year, local playwrights submit plays to this competition and there is one grand prize winner and three runners up with several plays receiving honorable mention.
This year’s Grand Prize goes to Hunter Rodgers for his play The Primitive Streak. This prize winning play receives a full production as part of the Circle Series on Friday and Saturday nights at 8:00 p.m. from March 26 through April 10. Directed by Hope Alexander this production features Lizzie Chazen, John Hammons, Becki Jordan, Shanelle Newton, Joel von Rievley, Will Sturtevant and Carol VanWinkle.
Playwright Hunter Rodgers describes his play: “The Primitive Streak centers on an angry young man who’s just lost his mother, a crooked state senator running for re-election, an odd pair of star-crossed lovers, a wise and lively prostitute and a ruthless business woman out for all she can get. This strange assortment of characters all find themselves thrown together in a bordello. Who will come out clean in this dramedy?”
