Contemporary British Artist Wins Dada Award
Contemporary British Artist Wins Dada Award

Contemporary British Artist, Rachel Gadsden has recently won the 'Arts Award' at the International Dada Awards 2009.

Rachel was a visiting artist at the College's Annual Symposium 2009.  She was introduced by the Theatre Design Programme to work with all students on the Art of Drama sessions during the Symposium.  The work with the students from across the College provided an ever changing gallery of drawings hung around the Rose Theatre Foyer.  Her original work is still hanging on either side of the entrance doors to the Rose Theatre.

Her work both as a practioner and as artefact are valuable  and we congratulations from the College regarding this prestigious award.  We hope to have further collaborations with Rachel in the future

Rachel said:
I am delighted to say that I was the lucky recipient of the “Arts Award” on Thursday 3rd December, International Day of Disability and also the 1000 day count down for the opening of the Paralympic Games in 2012.

We left home at 8am on 3rd Dec to take the train down to Brighton where I had been commissioned to create a live capture painting between 10am and 2pm at the launch of Accentuate, please follow the links to read more about this amazing London 2012 programme:

We then hot footed it, via train again, up to Liverpool for the Awards Dinner, arriving at 6.45pm for a quick change and ready for the celebrations which began at 7pm. It was the most amazing Gala Evening at the impressive new Hilton Hotel, which only opened a couple of weeks ago, with the key speech from Phil Redmond CBE and entertainment from So Many Excuses and DadaSings, who were all fantastic. Thank you Ruth Gould and all the team at Dada!

So a million thanks for voting, I appreciate enormously the wonderful support you give to my artistic practise.

I jump out of bed every morning excited to get into my studio, always conscious that I am very lucky to have the opportunity to express myself creatively and to meet so many.”
