New Chair of the Board of Governors
The Principal is pleased to announce that Mr Rodney Gent has assumed the Chairmanship of the Board of Governors of Rose Bruford College, Sidcup, Kent, with the retirement from the Board of Mr Eddie Newcomb at the turn of the New Year. Rodney Gent has been a Governor of the College since 2004 and Vice-Chair of the Board of Governors since 2007. He lives locally with his wife and includes theatre-going as one of his personal passions.
Mr Gent is Chairman and Managing Director of TCS Computer Services Ltd in Bexley. He has also had a long career in public service and local government as Borough Councillor for Southwark Council, Borough Councillor for Bromley Council and Greater London Councillor for the constituency of Bexley Sidcup from 1977 -1986. He brings to Rose Bruford an understanding of how the College can work effectively with local authorities and gain the wider support of area stakeholders. All of this is part of Rose Bruford’s desire to embed the work of the College more firmly in the surrounding communities of greater London and to partner with other nearby higher education institutions.
Rose Bruford College values the work that its previous Chair of Governors, Eddie Newcomb, achieved in setting the College on a firm footing within the spheres of Higher Education. He made Rose Bruford a more stable institution and set precedents and benchmarks for good management and governing principals. The College owes him a great debt of gratitude.
Rodney Gent, along with the College’s Principal, Professor Michael Earley, aims to widen the membership of Rose Bruford’s Board of Governors by recruiting additional prominent persons from the fields of higher and secondary education, culture and the arts, and the theatre and entertainment businesses.
