Working with Aborigine women from the Ngarrindjeri tribe
Working with Aborigine women from the Ngarrindjeri tribe

Rose Bruford student, Desmond Tucker, has just returned from Adelaide in South Australia, where he was working with Aborigine women from the Ngarrindjeri tribe, helping them to compose and record music. The women were full of praise for his work, saying how liberating the act of recording their own music was to them, and have invited him back in August  for further sessions.  Desmond is on the point of graduating from the BA Music Technology course, but has helped as a student ambassador on many occasions:  the next outing will be to work with students at St Catherine’s School in Bexleyheath, and with students from Hextable School on African drumming.

Desmond says his own experience, , has motivated him to work as a teacher, and is planning on going on to take his PGCE.  He originally came as a refugee from war-torn Sierra Leone, and he says he particularly wants to work to help other people who’ve been through a tough time.  He’s also hoping to do some work with two of the companies associated with the College:  Pan Intercultural Arts, who work across London and Internationally looking at issues of cultural exchange; and Border Crossings, who have recently worked themselves with the Aborigine community.
