The Symposium
The College’s annual Symposium provides a platform for the initiation, development and dissemination of research. For a week in the Spring there is a pause in formal teaching for workshops, ‘in conversations’, demonstrations, presentations, rehearsed readings, ‘work in progress’, panels, forums, encounters, installations, exhibitions, screenings, and live performance in many forms to take place. Staff and students are joined by alumni and graduate companies; associate artists, researchers and scholars, visiting professors and fellows; local, regional, national and international partners; and distinguished guests from the theatre community.
The Symposium is linked with specific college-wide student and faculty research projects. These have included Theatre Memory, Soundings: Innovation In and Reflection On Music Theatre, Many Voices, and most recently, The Festival Adventure, which explored the notion of ‘festival’ with particular emphasis on celebrating diversity and building communities.
