Accommodation

Halls of residence

Most first-year students can, if they wish, have a Rose Bruford room in a local University hall of residence. The halls are a 20-minute walk from the College and are located on a convenient bus route. Rooms are allocated on a first come, first served basis and alternative arrangements may be made for those students not successful in obtaining a Halls place, who may have applied later in the year.

Each student room is equipped with a bed/desk/chair/wardrobe and a sink. En-suite facilities are not usually available for students, though in exceptional circumstances it may be possible to provide them. There are also individual fridges for each room. Internet connection is included in the rent, which is around £86–100 per week, dependent on room size and facilities. The contract is for forty weeks. Each study bedroom is situated within a self-contained flat with a shared lounge/dining room/kitchen equipped with cookers, fridge-freezers and microwaves as standard. Entry phones are fitted for each flat and some have balconies with views over the park.

Avery Hill has a dedicated Medical Centre and all students at halls are encouraged to register there. There is also a pub/bar and shop on site as well as a new, state-of-the-art leisure complex housing fantastic gym facilities with student membership rates, social meeting area and canteen. Staff are in residence on campus should any problems arise and this is also where you can pay your rent. There are limited parking facilities, and permits will need to be purchased from the office in order to leave your car on site. The campus also benefits from 24-hour security staff.

Making your own arrangements

For second and third-year students, postgraduate students and those not requiring a halls place in the first year, we have the Rose Bruford College dedicated accommodation website. This provides students with information about local contracts, deposits and procedures, as well as providing an accommodation search facility for private rented accommodation and lodgings. For information on external accommodation see www.brufordstudentpad.co.uk

Private accommodation

Many students rent houses and flats in the local area. These can cost £80–90 per week, per person, plus bills and the contract can run for between 6 and 12 months, depending on the individual property. There are usually plenty of rented properties available. Visit www.brufordstudentpad.co.uk to find out more.

Lodgings

Some people have one or two rooms available to rent in their house or flat, and are happy to offer students a bedroom and use of shared facilities. Costs vary according to the individual landlord/lady and many of the lodgings available to our students have been used by Rose Bruford for some time. Such strong bonds mean that these families offer a unique experience that may be especially appealing to students who require slightly higher levels of support or who do not feel they are ready for independent living.

Overseas students

Overseas and mature students who wish to have a quieter halls experience can request a halls place at a different site near Queen Mary’s Hospital and run by an independent housing association. It is situated approximately 20 minutes from college, is on a major bus route and is convenient for shops and other main travel routes. Students wishing to be allocated a place at this site should note this request on the student contact form before returning it to the Accommodation Office. The cost of these halls is slightly higher than the main campus halls, with rents from £104–115 per week.
