About
BA American Theatre Arts’ Barn Season 2026 explores the forces that shape our lives – friendship, identity, power, and the ties that bind us. Bold, urgent, and inventive, these plays reflect the voices, passions, and contradictions of contemporary life.
Boy by Leo Butler
Directed by Nathan Curry
A boy.
At a bus stop.
Easily missed.
Liam wanders the city, passing through crowds, conversations, and encounters – yet never quite connecting. He watches, listens, and keeps moving, drifting through London with nothing to hold onto and nowhere to land.
”Come out of school and they expect you to work for free? You think I’m going to bust my arse on some training course when there ain’t nothing at the end of it? What the f*** is that?”
Left without the support of friends, family, or society itself, Liam’s solitary journey weaves through a kaleidoscope of characters – streetwise kids, exhausted police officers, wide-eyed tourists, and self-important businessmen – each encounter revealing a different face of the city.
Written by Leo Butler, Boy is a raw and quietly political coming-of-age story about being young, unseen, and adrift in 21st-century London.
This is an amateur production by arrangement with United Agents.
