The Maladies by Carmen Nasr

Directed by Olivia Munk

I’m tired.
I’m tired of living in a world that’s not mine.

1518. Strasbourg. A woman dances until she cannot stop.
1519. Tanzania. A schoolgirl’s laughter spreads from village to village.
1520. USA. Cheerleaders are overtaken by uncontrollable twitching.
1521. London. A group of women suddenly lose the ability to speak.

When a group of women in London mysteriously fall silent, no one can figure out why. The team at an all-female podcast decide to investigate and end up on a journey of discovery, uncovering more than they bargained for.

Drawing on real outbreaks of Mass Hysteria – The Maladies by Carmen Nasr explores silence, contagion, and what happens when being unheard becomes unbearable.

This is an amateur production by arrangement with Nick Hern Books.
