About
BA American Theatre Arts’ Barn Season 2026 explores the forces that shape our lives – friendship, identity, power, and the ties that bind us. Bold, urgent, and inventive, these plays reflect the voices, passions, and contradictions of contemporary life.
Sweat by Lynn Notttage
Directed by David Gilbert
In one of the poorest cities in America – Reading, Pennsylvania – a group of factory workers struggle to keep their lives in balance, unaware of the financial devastation looming just ahead.
Based on playwright Lynn Nottage’s interviews with Reading residents, Sweat follows a group of friends pitted against one another by corporate greed and economic uncertainty.
Directed by David Gilbert, this production offers a timely and urgent reflection on labour, inequality, and the ongoing erosion of the American Dream, issues that resonates profoundly in our current political moment.
This is an amateur production by arrangement with Creative Artists Agency.
