Vernon God Little

by DBC Pierre adapted by Tanya Ronder

Director Holly Race Roughan
Musical Director David Jackson
Designer Hannah Shapland

The shocking aftermath of a High School shooting rapidly becomes a wild satire on America’s loosening grip on reality. Vernon is 15. His best friend shot sixteen classmates before turning the gun on himself. Vernon wasn’t there, but he’s a suspect. A fake TV film crew move in, and the boy realizes he has to run. Scenes dissolve into each other at a dizzying pace, over the Mexican border and back again, as he meets cops, shrinks, Judges, and line dancers along the way.

The 2007 Young Vic production of Vernon God Little was nominated for an Olivier award and was revived in 2011.

The Suicide

by Suhayla El-Bushra after Nikolai Erdman

Director Karen Tomlin
Designer Courtney Larner
Lighting Designer Perttu Lahdesmaki
Sound Designer Thomas Laing

In an uproarious and biting comedy, Suhayla El-Bushra takes Nikolai Erdman’s satirical 1928 masterpiece and skewers contemporary Britain. Sam is without a job and has lost his benefits. Trapped in a tiny flat with his girlfriend Maya and her Mother, he feels like ending it all. Before long, everyone wants a piece of his tragedy: politicians, locals, rappers, TV documentary makers. The collision of their stories turns drama into farce.

The Suicide premiered at the Royal National Theatre in April 2016.

Performance dates:
Monday 11 March - 7.30pm
Tuesday 12 March - 7.30pm
Wednesday 13 March - 2.30pm & 7.30pm

City of Angels

Book by Larry Gelbart
Music by Cy Coleman
Lyrics by David Zippel

Director Alexandra Spencer Jones
Musical Director Matt Heslop
Designer Caitlin Whitaker
Lighting Designer George Lawton
Sound Designer Adam Gibson

In 1940’s Hollywood, Stine struggles to turn his crime novel into a workable movie script, while his fictional gumshoe detective Stone is on the mean streets of LA, the City of Angels, in search of a runaway blond. This slick, witty, split-level musical is at once a critique of the Hollywood studio system of the 40s and a fabulous Chandleresque pastiche.

City of Angels is a fiercely intelligent, ‘film noir’ examination of how we keep our integrity, our identity and tell our stories, with a sexy, jazzy score.

It is performed by students on the ground breaking BA (Hons) Actor Musicianship programme.

Performance dates:
Thursday 21 March - 7.30pm
Friday 22 March - 2.30pm & 7.30pm
Saturday 23 March - 2.30pm

Admission price:
£10 (concessions: £8, students £5)
