BA (Hons) American Theatre Arts presents:

The Children’s Hour

by Lillian Hellman

Directors: Steven Dykes & Justin Lenderking
Lighting Designer: Rhys Ferris
Costume Designer: Katie Khushi

“Everybody lies. All the time.Sometimes they have to, sometimes they don’t.”

In 1952 celebrated playwright Lillian Hellman was called before the House Un-American Activities Committee, charged with being a member of the Communist Party.

What clues to her vehement refusal to co-operate and ‘name names’ lie in her masterpiece The Children’s Hour?

This site-specific production in the wonderfully atmospheric Sidcup Manor House heightens the secretive world of Hellman’s melodrama, bringing vividly to life a girls’ boarding school in the 1930s. Join us for an immersive evening of public scandal, political intrigue and personal betrayal.

Patrons are advised that the action of the play takes place in a series of locations around the venue, requiring several flights of stairs to be climbed throughout the performance.
