DREAM Partnership Announced for Rose Bruford College

We are pleased to announce that Rose Bruford College has received support from Artswork, the South East bridge organisation, through its Partnership Investment programme. The investment of £25,000 will enable the college to deliver performing arts workshops to young people and practitioners in Ashford, Kent.

2014 Rose Bruford Jubilee Fund Awardees Announced

Rose Bruford College is pleased to announce the successful applicants to the Rose Bruford Jubilee Fund 2014.

The Jubilee Fund was created following a donation from the Rose Bruford Memorial Trust set up after the death of our founder, Rose Bruford. The fund provides support for recent graduates who need investment in their own projects and productions.

Obituary: Patsy Byrne 1933 - 2014

We were saddened to hear of the passing of Patsy Byrne, Rose Bruford Alumni, who has died aged 80. Patsy was a Rose Bruford College student from 1951 to 1954 and subsequently a governor. Our records show that she was taught by Rose Bruford herself.

Bruford on the South Bank at Bargehouse 5 - 8 June 2014

The prestigious Bargehouse on the South Bank is the venue for this years’ Rose Bruford College Graduate Exhibition and New Writing Season. Work by over 100 new graduates from the Sidcup based Theatre and Performance College will be shown across all four floors of the iconic Victorian warehouse in a free exhibition from the 5-8 June.

Successful film festival workshops at the College

On Saturday the College played host to a series of workshops for the Rob Knox film festival, supporting the work of aspiring film-makers in Bexley.  Participants were able to get involved with lighting for camera; in script development and promotion; acting, direction and mime workshops.  Perhaps the highlight of the day was a workshop with actors Peter Dean and Kerry-Ann White, both very experienced actors, with credits including  ‘Eastenders’ and Theatre Royal Stratford on their CV’s.

Rose Bruford College road trip to the USA

Rose Bruford College has been in the US for the last two weeks promoting MA courses with workshops and auditions at URTA. It’s been a very successful trip, with over 120 students participating in New York and Chicago workshops and auditions in San Fransisco to come this weekend.

Creative Lighting Control at Rose Bruford College partners up with the Royal Horticultural Society

A selection of our Creative Lighting Control and Performance Sound students have been working hard over the weekend to create this carefully mapped projection, as part of the exhibition taking place on Tues 1 April, 6-9pm at the RHS Head Office's Horticultural Hall, Vincent's Square, Pimlico.

Shows start to pile up for star director Ricard Eyre.

We'd like to share a recent article in the Evening Standard, regarding Rose Bruford's President, Sir Richard Eyre, and his busy life directing shows. He said the pile-up of productions was one of the risks of being a freelance director, where dates are not always in your own hands. “I’m driven to make a living,” he added. “And I love it. What would I do if I didn’t direct?

Obituary: Claire Grove

Claire, who was born in Somerset, trained at Rose Bruford College, and began directing in the theatre in 1981. She worked with Avon Touring Company, was associate director at Derby Playhouse and artistic director of the Women's Theatre Group. She joined BBC Radio Drama in 1990, initially to run the second Young Playwrights' Festival.

Theatre Design students Street Performance

Second year Theatre Design Students from Rose Bruford College have been selected by Scenofest,  the international student  festival for Scenography, as part of the Prague Quadrennial, to devise and perform a street theatre piece in Prague, June 2011.

ETA graduates Icelandic shows

Two shows  devised by ETA graduates Smari Gunnarsson and Snædís Lilja Ingadóttir (both of which were devised as part of the ETA programme and were presented as part of the Kabaret Kantor in Edinburgh Fringe) were recently shown at the artFart festival at Útgerðin, Iceland.

Sean Gleason, a student on the BA Lighting Design programme at Rose Bruford, has won the ETC-sponsored ‘runners up’ award at the annual Michael Northen Bursary Awards.

‘Pants on Fire’ win top award at Edinburgh Fringe

Peter Bramley’s production company ‘Pants on Fire’ has won the Carol Tambor Best of Edinburgh Award for its production of Ovid’s Metamorphoses at the Pleasance Dome in Edinburgh. The prize is a fully funded run in a New York off Broadway theatre in January next year.

Validation for the College’s two new MAs

The University of Manchester has validated two new MAs for Rose Bruford College: MA Theatre for Young Audiences and MA Ensemble Theatre.  Both of these taught Masters degrees are unique to higher education in the UK and will focus students on careers in very specific ways. Along with MPhil and PhD study, done in conjunction with Goldsmith, University of London, Rose Bruford College aims to attract a higher proportion of UK, EU and international students, seeking postgraduate training in London.

Launch of new Stanislavski electronic journal

The Stanislavski Centre in partnership with the St Petersburg Academy of Theatre Arts, has launched a new electronic journal.

The Stanislavski Journal will be published twice-yearly, in Spring and Autumn and will offer a platform for the best in international scholarship.
The journal will be published bi-lingually, in Russian and English and the first edition – Stanislavski and the contemporary theatre – will be co-edited by Professor Alexander Chepurov and Dr Paul Fryer.

College Student wins at Inter Spinal Games

Second year student, Andrew Risk recently took part in the 23rd Inter Spinal games at Stoke Mandeville during 19th - 24th April.  The event which was funded by the Wheelpower Charity and held at the Stoke Mandeville Stadium was attended by 13 teams from across the UK and featured a wide variety of sports including: Wheelchair Rugby, Shooting, Table Tennis, Fencing, Archery, Athletics, Hand cycling, Hockey, Sledge and Badminton.  Andrew's team were the recipients of the Team Shield at the Games.

For the first time ever, for one night only, St. Stephen's, the world famous tower housing the Big Ben bell was bathed in red light from base to spire to mark the start of Sport Relief on Friday 19th March.

The Nightingale Lights up London

Rose Bruford College, starting a new partnership with London’s Unicorn Theatre, proudly presented its third year Acting students in a production of The Love of a Nightingale by Timberlake Wertenbaker, at the Unicorn Theatre, last week, as part of its Winter/Spring season. Directed by Peter Bramley, this erotic and provocative tale of an Army General and his obsession with his wife’s sister was dramatically brought to life by Rose Bruford’s third year Acting students supported by third year design and technical students.

New Vice Principal Enterprise Management joins the College

Rose Bruford College, London has appointed its first Vice Principal Enterprise Management. John Hough, a former marketing professor and business school dean at Richmond The American International University in London; founding Development Director at Eltham College London, and most recently Head of Administration at the Aga Khan University London, joins the College to spearhead new initiatives and to develop alternative revenue streams. His experience in international private education and institutional advancement will help secure the College’s plans for long-term stability and growth.

The London Jungle Book Transformed goes to Spain

A group of Rose Bruford students and staff were invited in November 2009 to exhibit and perform their experimental mechanical theatre production, The London Jungle Book Transformed at the Parque de las Ciencias, Granada, as part of the Teatro Mecanico exhibition, which included Cabaret Mechanical Theatre and Sharmanka. The machines and performances were based on The London Jungle Book by Bhajju Shyam, an Indian Gond tribal artist.

London Light Supplies ETC Ion to Rose Bruford College

London Light Production Services' relationship with Rose Bruford College is continuing after supplying them with a new ETC Ion console for their lighting labs and is set to follow up this sale by providing the lighting tutors with initial training, which in turn will allow the college to offer students day-to day support. London Light has committed to offering the students more in-depth support as and when they require it.

The Theatres Trust today announced the appointment of Tim Atkinson, a graduate of Rose Bruford College, as Theatre Building Services Adviser and Clive Dixon as Finance & Monitoring Officer for ECOVENUE, its new three year programme to provide specialist theatre environmental advice and provide free Display Energy Certificate assessments for 48 small scale theatres in London.

Students light up York Museum

Students from all over the UK lit up some of the National Railway Museum’s (NRM) most iconic locomotives in a bid to win an exciting new lighting competition hosted by the Museum on Friday night. 

The competition was launched by the NRM to encourage students to consider the importance of lighting design in museums in the lead up to its re-development plans for the Great Hall.
