Dr Nick Hunt (Head of School Design, Management and Technical Arts and Hansjorg Schmidt (Programme Director BA (Hons) Lighting Design) have been collaborating on a practical research project exploring the role light plays in creating and mediating performance spaces, and how this process may be recorded. A preliminary outcome of this collaboration is an interactive light installation titled Traces.

Traces was first shown at the Performing Light Symposium at Leeds University in January 2017, and a further development of the project was shown at the Theatre and Performance Research Association (TaPRA) annual conference at Salford University on 1 September 2017.

Hansjorg Schmidt explained;

'Traces takes Peter Greenaway’s film The Draughtsman’s Contract and the advent of perspective drawing as it’s starting point, exploring how we frame and manage spatial composition and spectatorship as governed by light.'
