Rose Bruford College of Theatre and Performance and the Lighting Education Trust (LET) have announced a prestigious partnership to develop a new undergraduate Lighting Design degree pathway in Space and Architecture.
The proposed pathway is a development of the College’s existing and well-established BA (Hons) Lighting Design programme (Europe’s first degree in Lighting Design launched in 1993), which already has a track record in preparing graduates to work in lighting for architecture and the built environment as well as theatre and live performance.
The £30,000 three-year package of support from LET will not only include staff and teaching resources but will also create industry placement opportunities for students.
Nick Hunt, Rose Bruford College Head of School for Design, Management and Technical Arts, believes the partnership provides fantastic employment opportunities for students selected onto the pathway:

Working together we will be able to meet industry’s need for creative specialists in architectural lighting and provide great opportunities for students to go into a vibrant and expanding field.”
The new BA (Hons) pathway signifies the first comprehensive study route for those wishing to make Architectural Lighting Design a career, bridging LET’s existing online Diploma course in Lighting Design and University College London’s MSc in Lighting Design.
Following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding and presentation of a cheque to Rose Bruford College Principal and Chief Executive, Clarie Middleton, Bob Venning, Chair of the LET Management Committee said:
“The Lighting Education Trust is delighted to support the production of the new course and we look forward to many years of close collaboration with Rose Bruford College with the aim of promoting lighting education in the United Kingdom.”
Starting in September 2018, the pathway will be available for four BA (Hons) Lighting Design Students per year.
