Steven Dykes, Programme Director for American Theatre Arts, spent the summer in New York performing with theatre company PTP/NYC, his fourth season with the critically acclaimed ensemble. Appearing at off-Broadway’s Atlantic Theatre Stage 2, Steven played the leading role in the world stage premiere of Howard Barker’s Pity in History. Originally written for BBC television, the play tells the story of a stone mason (Gaukroger) caught between warring factions at the height of the English Civil War. Giving a contemporary setting by director Richard Romagnoli, the production received excellent reviews:

“Even high expectations won’t prepare you for the show’s lacerating excellence. This is a short, sharp, shockingly funny production that oxygenates the blood … The wry, hilarious Steven Dykes is the typical Barker antihero: a wise cynic, a mouthy craftsman who knows his (and dogma’s) worth.” Time Out New York

Steven also appeared in rep as Captain Brice in the company’s revival of its sold-out production of Tom Stoppard’s Arcadia, and his own play Kolonists received a staged reading as part of the company’s After Dark season. For more information visit: www.potomactheatreproject.org
