Dr Ben Buratta is a theatre-maker, director, dramaturg, researcher and teacher working across actor training, contemporary theatre-making and queer performance. He is Head of Acting & Performance at Rose Bruford College and Founder and Artistic Director of Outbox, a company established in 2010 that collaborates with LGBTQIA+ performers, artists and communities to create performance and participation projects.

Alongside his work in higher education, Ben maintains an active professional practice spanning directing, dramaturgy and creative producing. He has created work for organisations including the Bush Theatre, Birmingham Rep, Southbank Centre, Contact and the Royal Court. Through Outbox, he has developed critically acclaimed projects including GROOVE and And The Rest of Me Floats, collaborating with performers and communities to create transdisciplinary and cross-generational work.

Ben’s research is rooted in professional practice and explores theatre-making, dramaturgy, participation and audience engagement. In 2024, he completed a practice-based PhD at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, introducing the concept of Dance-floor Dramaturgy, a framework for creating queer theatre. He has presented research internationally across four continents. As Head of Acting & Performance, Ben leads the development of actor training at Rose Bruford College, shaping rigorous, industry-connected and inclusive training.
