Nina Raines is an established scenic artist who graduated in 2016. Following her undergraduate degree at Rose Bruford, she went on to study a Master’s degree at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School.
She has since worked as a scenic painter for theatre, TV/film and events, and as a set and costume designer in the South West, including at the Theatre Royal Plymouth.
Nina has painted scenery in theatrical workshops for numerous productions, including The Lion King, Miss Saigon, War Horse, Pretty Woman, and sets for a range of theatre companies.
She has worked for Glastonbury and Boomtown festivals, and for TV, including BBC’s Doctor Who, The Spanish Princess, and worked as a scenic painter on War of the Worlds (Fox).
She also designs and paints indoor and outdoor murals and has been commissioned to paint large public-facing pieces in Bristol and Plymouth.
Recently she has worked as a Prop Painter on Down Cemetery Road, and Series 2 of Rivals for Disney+, both filmed at Bottleyard Studios.
“Rose Bruford was a creative, collaborative and encouraging environment. The Theatre Design course set me up with skills moving forward to work in theatre with a really good understanding of the industry. I was later able to go on to do a Master’s degree thanks to a strong portfolio of design work from my time at the College and, afterwards, work in the industry.
I left with a great foundation of skills and the small tutor group size and teaching from caring tutors and skilled visitors meant I felt like real care went into the course and into sending us out as young designers.”
