Sophia Eleni, a 2015 graduate of the BA European Theatre Arts (ETA) programme at Rose Bruford College, has built a dynamic and award-winning career in stage, screen, and voice acting. From critically acclaimed performances in Apple TV productions to guest roles in BBC dramas, Sophia has continually pushed the boundaries of her craft.

Reflecting on her time at Rose Bruford, Sophia highlights the college’s unique atmosphere and opportunities:

“I loved the relaxed, family feel and beautiful historic campus. Rose Bruford also fosters links with drama schools outside the UK, and I relished the chance to study abroad. Soaking in a different culture and training was incredibly refreshing, and I made lifelong friends along the way.”

Her rigorous degree prepared her for the demands of a highly competitive industry:

“The course prepared me physically, vocally, and holistically for a very unforgiving industry”.

She credits her time at Rose Bruford with expanding her creative approach to acting through the study of design and dramaturgy, allowing her to explore new avenues and develop a multifaceted creative practice.

Sophia’s career highlights reflect both her versatility and her dedication. She has earned five Best Actress awards for her role in The Shamrock Spitfire (Apple TV), a Best Actress award for Walking Against The Rain (Apple TV), and two award-winning one-woman shows, On Arriving and 15 Heroines, which showcased in London’s West End at Jermyn Street Theatre. She has also guest-starred in BBC dramas Call The Midwife and Casualty and recently expanded into video game voice acting, taking on leading roles that showcase her dynamic range.

Maintaining strong ties with Rose Bruford has been an important part of Sophia’s professional life. She returns annually to speak with third-year ETA students and remains in contact with her head of year, Thomas Wilson, who supported her from the start;

“It is always a highlight of my year to go back”.

For those considering Rose Bruford College, Sophia offers a thoughtful piece of advice:

“Before you even consider any performance-related course, ask yourself this: have you chosen this industry, or has this industry chosen you? If the latter, you’re in the right place.”
