Sophia Eleni studied BA European Theatre Arts, and graduated in 2015. We caught up with Sophia and asked her to share her experiences of studying at Rose Bruford College and how her education has helped her to succeed in the industry.
What did you like most about studying at Rose Bruford College?
The relaxed, family feel and beautiful historic campus. Rose Bruford College also fosters several links to drama schools outside of the UK, and I relished the opportunity to study abroad too. Soaking in the different culture and training was incredibly refreshing and I made life long friends along the way.
How has your course helped you to get to where you are today?
My degree was very rigorous, and it prepared me physically, vocally and holistically to prepare for a very unforgiving industry. It also made me approach acting work more creatively through studying design and dramaturgy; which I found fascinating; and gave me freedoms to explore other avenues and my creative practice.
What has been the highlight of your career to date?
x5 Best Actress awards for my role in The Shamrock Spitfire (Apple TV); A Best Actress award for my leading role in Walking Against The Rain (Apple TV); Two award-winning one woman shows; On Arriving and 15 Heroines that showcased in the West-End at Jermyn St; Guest starring in BBC dramas Call The Midwife and Casualty. I have recently delved for the first time into the world of video game voice acting playing some kick ass leading roles.
How have you stayed connected to Rose Bruford College since graduation?
Annually I return to Rose Bruford to give a talk with the 3rd year ETA’s. I am still in touch with my head of year, Thomas Wilson, who believed in me from day dot. It is always a highlight of my year to go back!
What would you say to a student who is thinking of applying for your course today?
Before you even consider any performance-related course, ask yourself this: Have you chosen this industry, or has this industry chosen you? If the latter, you’re in the
right place.
