Hannah Margetson studied BA European Theatre Arts, and graduated in 2020. We caught up with Hannah and asked her to share her experiences of studying at Rose Bruford College and how her education has helped her to succeed in the industry.

What did you like most about studying at Rose Bruford College?

What I enjoyed most about studying at Rose Bruford College was the opportunity to dive into diverse methodologies from both European and global physical theatre practitioners. My placement in Poland with the Gardzienice Centre for Theatre Practices was especially impactful; the training and dedication there were unparalleled, and witnessing their performance work was electrifying. I’ll always cherish memories of our night runs through the Polish woodlands, moving in complete darkness guided only by the stars. Being part of such a close-knit community of artists profoundly shaped my practice, continually inspiring my daily work. I am constantly refining my physical craft to stay aligned with the world around me and attuned to the natural forces that drive my creative journey.

How has your course helped you to get to where you are today?

European Theatre Arts inspired me to think creatively and recognise that opportunities aren’t always handed to you—you can create your own. It instilled the importance of hard work, discipline, and collaboration in producing innovative work that challenges boundaries. I’ve gained the ability to accomplish a lot with limited resources, viewing constraints in
budget, time, or space as opportunities for creativity rather than limitations. This mindset has been invaluable in my journey, driving me forward in both my career and personal life.

What has been the highlight of your career to date?

A major highlight of my career has been launching Snake Height Creative Company, which brings agency, casting, and events services to a global audience. A defining moment for me was working on Hellboy: The Crooked Man at Nu Boyana Studios in Bulgaria, directed by the legendary Brian Taylor—known for Crank, Crank: High Voltage, Netflix’s HAPPY!, and Mom & Dad. Filming with such an inspiring team, cast, and crew was unforgettable, and the experience of being rigged at height in the forest, with my snake companion by my side, gave new depth to Snake Height’s mission and our dedication to pushing creative boundaries.

How have you stayed connected to Rose Bruford College since graduation?

I’ve been working closely with the creative teams at Rose Bruford College, collaborating with both alumni and current students on events, circus performances, and costume design for
various projects. It’s inspiring to see such a vibrant community of talented, down-to-earth multidisciplinary artists—people who are ready to work without the constraints of traditional structures. The college’s students bring a unique energy; they are creative nonconformists, deeply collaborative, and grounded by a strong work ethic. Rose Bruford College is truly a place that cultivates genuine artists who aren’t afraid to get their hands dirty and dive into their craft.

What would you say to a student who is thinking of applying for your course today?

Embrace every opportunity wholeheartedly. Stay open and adaptable, and most importantly, remember to bring your authentic self to each project. Discover which aspects of yourself are highlighted in your collaborations with others—the good, the bad, and the ugly—all are essential!
