Students rate teaching at Rose Bruford highly. Recent student surveys and reviews recognise the quality of our teaching, academic feedback, and lecturers.

When you choose where to study, you’re choosing the people and experiences that will help you grow.

You want to know what learning there will feel like. Will your tutors know your work? Will their feedback help you take the next step? And how will your education prepare you for a career in the creative industries?

At Rose Bruford, learning and making happen together. Students develop ideas, create work, and solve practical problems with people from other disciplines. Through that work, they learn how to respond to the demands of professional practice.

Recent student feedback suggests they value that experience.

More than 96% satisfaction with teaching

The Guardian University Guide 2027 places Rose Bruford College in the top third of 80 institutions in its Drama and Dance subject table. Teaching satisfaction is more than 96%, up on the previous guide. Satisfaction with academic feedback has risen too.

In the Complete University Guide Performing Arts Table 2027, Rose Bruford’s student satisfaction result is 80%. The College’s analysis places that result third among the 14 specialist institutions included in the table.

Both guides draw on National Student Survey data, using different years and student populations. In the 2026 National Student Survey, more than 94% of responses to teaching questions from full-time undergraduates across the College were positive.

Behind those figures are students thinking about the teaching they receive and how it helps them develop.

Learning by doing

At Rose Bruford, teaching continues after rehearsals.

Across the academic year, more than 200 productions and events take place in our performance and learning spaces. They give students from different disciplines regular opportunities to work alongside one another and put their ideas into practice.

That might mean designing a production or working backstage, creating work for screen, or exploring new technologies and forms of performance.

Our facilities include the 330-seat Rose Theatre, the Barn, and the XR Studio, alongside specialist spaces for performance, design, technical production, and creative practice.

As students make work together, they learn to communicate across disciplines, respond to different perspectives, and contribute to a shared creative project.

Teaching connected to the industry

Students also need to understand the profession they hope to enter.

Industry professionals visit Rose Bruford, and students meet practitioners through their courses and College events. Showcases and productions help connect their training with professional life.

These encounters can make the move from education to employment feel more tangible. Students can learn about the roles and expectations behind a production, and begin to understand the professional relationships that sustain creative work.

The Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) 2023 recognised these strengths. The Office for Students awarded Rose Bruford an overall Silver rating. The panel identified outstanding features in our tailored academic support and in the way research, innovation, professional practice, and employer engagement shape students’ experience.

Feedback that helps you develop

Creative education gives you room to experiment. A rehearsal may need another attempt. A design may change. A performance may take a direction you hadn’t imagined. Good feedback helps you understand what to do next.

Satisfaction with academic feedback has risen in the Guardian’s Drama and Dance subject table. Useful feedback helps you recognise your strengths, see where you can improve, and make more informed choices about the work you create.

Because students work closely with tutors and practitioners, those conversations can happen throughout the learning process, in rehearsals and practical work, after performances, and in one-to-one discussions.

A community built around making

You also become part of a community built around creative work.

Students from different courses share spaces, productions, and events. An actor may work with a director, designer, writer, technical theatre student, or actor musician. Someone exploring a new approach to performance may encounter research happening elsewhere in the College.

Your education includes the conversations between classes and the people you meet through a production. It includes the rehearsal when an idea begins to work, and the first time you see your work in front of an audience.

Over time, those shared experiences can build a sense of belonging. At graduation, we celebrate each student’s achievement and the community that helped them get there.

What students say about their tutors

At the Whatuni Student Choice Awards 2026, Rose Bruford College ranked fifth nationally for Lecturers and Teaching Quality, based on student reviews. Alongside the National Student Survey results, those reviews show how highly students value teaching at the College.
