Gary Oldman is an Academy Award and Golden Globe–winning actor, recognised for his portrayal of Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour.
He began his screen career with a starring role in Meantime, following acclaimed stage work at the Royal Court Theatre and as a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company until the late 1980s.
Oldman rose to prominence in British cinema with standout performances as Sid Vicious in Sid and Nancy and playwright Joe Orton in Prick Up Your Ears. He further established his reputation in The Firm and Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead.
His international career includes acclaimed roles in State of Grace, JFK and Bram Stoker’s Dracula, and as Norman Stansfield in Léon: The Professional. In 1997, he wrote and directed Nil by Mouth.
More recently, Oldman has become widely known for roles including Sirius Black in the Harry Potter film series, James Gordon in The Dark Knight Trilogy, George Smiley in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, and Dreyfus in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.
Gary Oldman studied BA (Hons) Acting at Rose Bruford College, graduating in 1979.
