Please join us for Activating Change: Open Talks, a series of public lectures produced by second year BA (Hons) Theatre and Social Change in collaboration with BA (Hons) Contemporary and Popular Performance students at Tramshed, Woolwich, starting 16 October.
Together we will consider the many ways in which change might be enacted in our communities and in wider society – creating a shared understanding of the goals we have and the strategies we might use to get there.

Alia Alzougbi, Thursday 16 October.
Alia Alzougbi is a cultural strategist, artist and facilitator working at the intersection of art, social and environmental justice. Her practice uses the arts to interrogate inequality and explore alternative ways of understanding and being. She has worked with national and international organisations as curator and storyteller, creating critical encounters in education and the arts towards collective liberation, from corner shops to world-renowned museums. A Chevening Scholar, Clore Fellow, Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and ISPA Fellow 2026 – Alia is Artistic Director & CEO of Shubbak, Europe’s largest festival of contemporary Arab arts. She rehearses moving through life with humility, joy and rest, foregrounding dignity for all beings and the Earth, while mentoring those facing systemic barriers.

Luke Hallgarten, Thursday 13 November.
Born and raised in London, Luke Hallgarten is a 3rd generation Jewish immigrant with dual German/British nationality. A graduate of the National Centre for Circus Arts in London and the prestigious Le Lido in Toulouse, he toured with NoFit State Circus and Gandini Juggling before founding The Revel Puck Circus, where he is artistic director. Luke has written, directed and produced a broad spectrum of circus; his shows have sold out at the Edinburgh Fringe, won awards at the Cirque de Demain festival in Paris, and filled big tops and Spiegel tents nationwide. His work focuses on the universality of circus as a tool for social change, creating spaces where everyone, from everywhere, is welcome.

Nene Camara, Thursday 27 November.
Nene Camara is an artist and producer, crafting performances across schools, theatres, club nights, festivals and cabarets. Their approach is grounded in inclusion, anti-racism and accessibility – values shaping every stage of their work. Nene’s journey began on the Young Producers scheme at Battersea Arts Centre, sparking a passion that led them to study performance-making in Glasgow, where a new community of peers and collaborators inspired them. For the past three years, they have worked at Artsadmin, supporting artists on national and international tours and forging global collaborations. Now Organisational Director at BUZZCUT – Nene steers the vision of one of Glasgow’s most vital live art organisations, championing underrepresented communities and exploring thrilling ways of making and sharing art.

Josie Dale-Jones, Thursday 11 December.
Josie Dale-Jones is a theatre maker and producer. Josie mostly works under ThisEgg where she self-produces and co-creates shows with a variety of artistic collaborators. ThisEgg’s most recent show, A Little Inquest Into What We Are All Doing Here won a Scotsman Fringe First Award 2024. Theatre Royal Bath appointed Josie a 2019 Leverhulme Arts Scholar. She was nominated as a finalist for the Arts Foundation Theatre-Makers Award 2021. Outside of ThisEgg Josie has worked as a producer for Stratford East and for companies including Complicité, Gecko and tiata fahodzi. Most recently, Josie opened her third show as a director at Junges Ensemble Stuttgart, Germany.
