About
A new production from Rose Bruford College at Bridewell Theatre, 25, 26 & 27 June 2026.
Part of a season of two contemporary responses to ancient Greek theatre at the Bridewell Theatre, this production is created and performed by MA/MFA Actor and Performer Training students from Rose Bruford College.
Drawing on The Phoenician Women by Euripides, Martin Crimp’s striking adaptation reimagines this rarely staged work through a bold, contemporary lens. Directed by course leader Ivan Talijančić, the production explores civil war and power through a chorus-led, statuesque and sharply satirical approach.
Crimp’s version premiered in German at the Deutsches Schauspielhaus in 2013, directed by Katie Mitchell, and was later staged at the Avignon Festival in 2019. Talijancic’s production is the English-language world premiere of the play.
Ivan is artistic co-director of the New York based multidisciplinary art group WaxFactory and a Usual Suspect at the New York Theatre Workshop.
