On 21st of March we concluded a dynamic and creative spring term filled with inspiring moments!
Our first-year student kicked off the term with an intensive shared module: The Practitioner in Context. They worked in cross-disciplinary teams to create immersive installations while exploring contemporary theatre practitioners and theatre history. This experience deepened their understanding of collaboration within the performing arts industry and provided an insight into various production disciplines, including scenic arts, costume production, stage management and creative lighting control.
As the term progressed, the first years delved into their Designer as Practitioner module. Their first project, a three-day collaboration with BA Theatre and Social Change and BA Contemporary and Popular Performance students – focused on using design to engage communities and activate public spaces. this hands-on experience led by Dr Marina Hadjilouca and Alison Neighbour saw students devising temporary outdoor interventions.

Next, students explored Costume Design and Making, honing their storytelling and character development skills by designing and constructing original costumes. They gained valuable experience in costume drawing, pattern cutting, sewing, fabric manipulation and fittings. At the same time, they attended seminars and museum visits in London to deepen their knowledge of costume history. The project culminated with a portrait photograph workshop in our XR studio with photographer Christa Holka.
