Rose Bruford College alum Alex Jordan is part of the team nominated in three categories at the BAFTA Games Awards 2026 for The Alters – a sci-fi survival game that has become one of the most celebrated titles of the past year.
The nominations recognise The Alters in the categories of Narrative, New Intellectual Property, and Game Beyond Entertainment.
The Alters, developed and published by 11 bit studios (the team behind This War of Mine and Frostpunk), asks players to create alternate versions of themselves to survive on a hostile planet. What begins as a resource management challenge becomes something far more intimate – a story about regret, identity, and the lives we might have led.
Alex lends his voice not only to the protagonist, Jan Dolski, but to eleven alternate versions of the character, each shaped by a different life choice. With distinct personalities, accents, physicality and emotional range, his contribution of twelve characters is central to the game’s emotional architecture.
To bring the characters to life, Alex spent hundreds of hours in the recording booth over two years. Each ‘Alter’ required a specific physical stance, jaw position and tongue placement to achieve a unique voice. The game’s director, Tomasz Kisilewicz, said he felt an instant connection from Alex’s very first audition.
The three three BAFTA Games Awards nomination categories reflect different dimensions of the game’s achievement: Narrative recognises excellence in storytelling and character development; New Intellectual Property celebrates original concepts; and Game Beyond Entertainment honours titles with meaningful social, cultural or emotional impact.
The Alters has been widely praised since its release in summer 2025, holding a score of 85 on Metacritic, with 95% of critics recommending it on OpenCritic and 89% positive reviews on Steam. It won Strategy/Simulation Game of the Year at the D.I.C.E. Awards 2026 and was nominated at The Game Awards 2025.
Alex’s vocal performance has been singled out by reviewers as the beating heart of the experience, with critics praising the game’s emotional depth, originality and character work.
More than 1,700 BAFTA members voted on nominations drawn from across the global games industry. A total of 255 games were considered, with 42 titles ultimately nominated across 17 categories.
Alex studied BA Acting at Rose Bruford College, graduating in 2013. Since then, he has built a career spanning film, television, animation and games, with screen credits including Dream Horse, alongside Toni Collette and Damian Lewis, Paddington 2, and ITV dramas Unforgotten and Liar.
In gaming, Alex is known for roles in Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, Dragon Age: The Veilguard, Warhammer 40,000: Darktide, and Split Fiction. His work on The Alters reflects the adaptability of a conservatoire-trained performer, applying core acting skills in a different context. Taking on multiple roles, Alex approaches each character as a new discovery, building voices from the ground up rather than drawing on existing performances. The result is a range of distinct, nuanced and believable characters.
The British Academy of Film and Television Arts Games Awards were founded in 2004 and are among the most prestigious honours in the global games industry.
The 22nd ceremony will take place on 17 April 2026 at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, Southbank Centre, London, as part of the London Games Festival (13–19 April 2026). The ceremony will be available to watch live on BAFTA’s YouTube channel.
Congratulations to Alex and the team at 11 bit studios on these well-deserved nominations.
