Catherine Goodship studied BA Costume Production, and graduated in 2014. We caught up with Catherine and asked her to share her experiences of studying at Rose Bruford College and how her education has helped her to succeed in the industry.

What did you like most about studying at Rose Bruford College?

Small classes so a lot of help from the teachers. I loved that all the departments worked together on the shows as it gave the sense of working straight from the beginning. It also has a great community feel as its quite a small university.

How has your course helped you to get to where you are today?

It taught me so many skills to transfer into the working world, and, working on the shows at the college really helps understand how the industry works.

What has been the highlight of your career to date?

After freelancing for a little bit after graduating, I began working at James Maciver Costumes. When I first started in 2015 there were only 3 of us working full time and when I left in 2023 to have my daughter, there was over 20 people. I feel I was an integral part of growing the company, starting as a machinist and ending as the Head of Costume Operations.

But I feel the highlight of my career so far is making my once side hobby, Created by Cat, my full time career. Post maternity leave, I now run my own company alongside looking after my daughter. I specialize in memory bears, cushions and blankets, but I also do standard and bridal alterations.

How have you stayed connected to Rose Bruford College since graduation?

I’m still in contact with my classmates.

What would you say to a student thinking of applying for your course today?

Do it! It was such an amazing course and really helped me build my confidence and gain so much knowledge to take with me into the industry.
