Dr. Ben Buratta joins Rose Bruford College as Head of Acting and Performance following a comprehensive search and recruitment process.

Stuart Page, Dean of Rose Bruford College, said:

“As an accomplished educator, theatre maker and researcher, Ben brings invaluable experience that will shape and strengthen our Acting & Performance provision. Their commitment to bold and dynamic theatre training aligns with our vision for the future, making this appointment an exciting milestone in the ongoing evolution of our performance programmes.”

Dr. Ben Buratta said:

“I am delighted to have joined Rose Bruford College as Head of Acting & Performance during this exciting period of development. The vision outlined in the College’s strategic plan is inspiring, leading the way for research-led, global, and student-centred arts education. There is a thriving culture of actor and performer training here that I will continue to develop, centring inclusion and innovation. I look forward to working with our talented faculty to build on the excellence across our courses, deepen partnerships with the performing arts industries, and support the artists shaping the future of our field.”

Ben joins Rose Bruford College from The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama where they were Programme Leader for BA Acting (Collaborative and Devised Theatre) and Senior Lecturer in Acting and Theatre Making. Committed to innovative and inclusive training methods that centre the actor/performer as an artist, they regularly consult on and develop change-making policies across the performing arts industries, particularly in relation to inclusive casting practices.

Their research is rooted in professional practice and explores new modes of theatre-making, dramaturgical frameworks, audience engagement strategies, and the deeper representation of queer narratives and performers. A theatre maker, director, dramaturg, and researcher, they have created work in theatres including The Bush, Birmingham Rep, Southbank Centre, Contact, and The Royal Court, as well as in nightclubs, warehouses, and public spaces. As the founder and Artistic Director of Outbox, they collaborate with LGBTQIA+ performers and communities to create bold, critically acclaimed work, including GROOVE and And The Rest of Me Floats.
