Over 100 of the world’s leading Stanislavski scholars gathered at the home of the Stanislavski Centre at Rose Bruford College of Theatre and Performance recently for a three day international symposium.
The S Word, a new four-year research project that explores the influence of Stanislavski on the contemporary theatre, opened with a symposium, Stanislavski and the Future of Acting, held at the College on 18th to 20th March.
Delegates attended from countries as far apart as Brazil, Russia and Australia and joined College academic and research staff to present papers and give practical sessions.
The symposium, sponsored by Routledge and Nick Hern Books, was a collaboration with the Theatre Department at the University of California Riverside, and was co-convened by Prof. Bella Merlin and the College’s Associate Director of Research, Paul Fryer.
The project will continue on 13th July with an event on translation: Translating the Art/The Art of Translation will be presented at Pushkin House in Central London, chaired by the Stanislavski Centre Research Associate, Anna Shulgat, and featuring guest speakers Katya Kamotskaia (Royal Conservatoire of Scotland) and Noah Birksted-Breen (Sputnik Theatre).
