Rose Bruford College of Theatre and Performance is delighted to announce the awarding of their 2018 The Stage Scholarship to Sidcup Acting Foundation Course student Yadel Gebeyehu.

19 year old Yadel from Leicester is currently studying for his BTEC’s at Gateway College.  He came to England from Ethiopia at the age 8 not knowing a word of English, but always knew that he wanted to do something in the acting industry.

The 20 week Acting Foundation Course is designed to support students development as an actor in both training, auditioning and future practice in a way that is rigorous and professional. As well as being accepted onto Acting and Performance degrees at a range of drama schools, graduates from the Acting Foundation Course have also progressed onto professional roles as TV and theatre writers, producers, actors, directors, film makers and teachers.

The Stage Scholarship has been running for more than 20 years, helping many hundreds of youngsters follow their dreams, with former winners going on to work in shows ranging from Wicked in the West End to Robert Icke’s production of Oresteia.

On receiving news of his scholarship, Yadel commented:

“I am really delighted that I have been chosen to be a part of Rose Bruford College and that I’ve been offered The Stage Scholarship. I did a lot of research and fell in love with the place when I came to audition. The teachers were really nice and all the students and graduate ambassadors all had good things to say about the College. I really enjoyed the workshops at the audition. There are no words that can describe how I am feeling right now, I feel like this is a place where I should be. I can’t wait to start in September.”

Acting Foundation Course Director Pat O’Toole congratulated Yadel on his award:

“We are delighted to award Yadel The Stage Scholarship this year. This award is about opportunity and encouraging potential. We felt Yadel demonstrated a real passion and commitment to pursue acting as a craft as well as sharing the values of the course. He was a clear winner and we are thrilled that he will be joining us this September.”

In addition to the course at the College’s Sidcup campus the course will also be running in Bromsgrove, Edinburgh and Folkestone from September 2018. Bursaries are available in each regional location.

Upon completing the 20-week course Yadel plans to apply for the College’s BA (Hons) Acting degree programme.
