This TaPRA-funded event is organised by the Performance and New Technologies working group.

The conveners would like to invite you to their interim event Futures After the Pandemic: Transmedial Stages and Posthuman Dramaturgies.

The event will take place in the XR Stage at Rose Bruford on Friday 9 May 10.00-17.00.

The event is in-person and online. If attending online, a link will be sent on the day of the event.

The XR Stage is a state-of-the-art facility providing students, academics and artists with access to the latest in virtual reality, augmented reality and mixed reality technologies. The studio is used in theatre productions and as a space to conduct practice research projects into digital scenography, interactive artworks, AI dramaturgies, and non-human theatre.

The invited delegates are Caridad Svich, Maddy Costa, Hannah Silva, Roisin Tyrrell. Each of them will present on the future of performance in a post-pandemic world in the age of AI. The organisers will host conversations concerning the legacy of the fervid experimentations in online performance-making and performer training arising from Covid-19 whilst pondering what effects mediated and online performances will have on emerging AI dramaturgies.

Other questions and themes the event will engage with:

  • What is the future of audience participation in mediated/online performances in a post-digital society?
  • How can we create and sustain networked communities of artists, scholars and activists in alternative spaces of online connectivity to address the contemporary political, social, and ecological permacrisis?
  • How can digital performance archives reactivate histories of past crises and technological revolutions as a time capsule for learning and sharing revolutionary creative practice?

A full programme will be published closer to the date of the event.
