Thomas J.M. Wilson initially trained in Voltige (Equestrian Gymnastics), competing at national and European level in the mid-1990s. He went on to train in a range of physical performance practices before making work at the intersection of dance and theatre, with a particular interest in solo performance. He continues to make work in a range of capacities.

From 2008-10, Thomas served on Oxford Dance Forum's Steering Group, an artist-led initiative developing and supporting independent dance artists. Thomas is a Trustee of Theatre Delicatessen (Curving Road) with a particular interest in supporting emerging artists working in immersive contexts.

Since 2001 Thomas has regularly contributed to Total Theatre magazine, including serving on its editorial board; writing predominantly on contemporary circus and dance. He is an Associate of Gandini Juggling as Archivist and Publications Author, and is currently working on a history of the company. Thomas is an Associate Editor for (Training Grounds) Theatre, Dance and Performance Training Journal. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
